About
Hike Nova Scotia is a nonprofit organization that encourages and promotes a growing hiking culture throughout our great province. We strive to be the voice for those who hike, walk and snowshoe as well as those who build and maintain hiking trails.
Hike NS encourages and promotes hiking, walking and snowshoeing throughout Nova Scotia. It formed in 2006 as a registered not-for-profit society. It is governed by a
Board of Directors with strong regional and special interest representation.
Hiking and connecting with nature improves:
- Physical health
- Mental health
- Social well-being
- Economic prosperity
- Environmental protection
We offer a wide variety of events including seasonal Guided Hike & Walk Series, the annual Hiking Summit, Outdoor Council of Canada courses and other hiking-related webinars and workshops. Proudly home to the Nova Scotia Chapter of the International Appalachian Trail, we also offer the Hiker Challenge program, the NS Walks program, Young Hikers Club and Leave No Trace Education. Our Trail Builder Network supports the amazing volunteers and staff of the trail groups, First Nations and municipalities that build and maintain hiking trails. Hike NS engages in advocacy and policy development on hiking issues, striving to keep our great wilderness areas protected.
Equity, diversity, inclusion and access is a lens applied to all the strategic directions within Hike Nova Scotia’s strategic plan.
