Connect with Nature Using iNaturalist Webinar
Taking place on
Tuesday, April 1 at 7 pm, Hike Nova Scotia hosts the
Connect with Nature Using iNaturalist Webinar on how to use
iNaturalist to combine recording observations of nature as you contribute to citizen science while hiking and exploring our province.
Join naturalist David McCorquodale as he describes how to add 'iNatting' to your hiking activities. This presentation will introduce
iNaturalist – a tool designed to help record observations of wildlife and to help hikers learn more about the plants and animals that they may encounter on adventures through our many diverse habitats. Learn how to share your observations and contribute to citizen science. Hiking is more than racking up the kilometres. There is something special about getting outdoors and here in Nova Scotia we are spoiled with so many trails close to home. Practice sharing your observations of nature. Help highlight the biodiversity in our province. iNaturalist will be useful for those interested in taking part in the
City Nature Challenge happening from April 25 to 28.
Presenter
David McCorquodale is a naturalist living in Unama’ki. For 30 plus years he was a biology professor at Cape Breton University, focusing on insects, species at risk and the natural history of Unama’ki. In retirement, he continues to travel and explore, mostly birds, bugs, and plants - documenting them through iNaturalist (@dbmcc09) and eBird.
The webinar is offered in partnership with the
Nova Scotia Department of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage.
Cost
Registration is required in advance. It is free for Hike NS paid members and $30 for non-members (who then receive a free one-year individual membership). There is a limited number of spots available.
