Trail Group Support
Trail Group Support Opportunity
In the spring and summer of 2025, Hike Nova Scotia will support community trail groups to build their capacity to be more effective in their work of building and maintaining safe trails. In this pilot project, two Trail Support Coordinators - mainly through virtual and online support - will assist a number of trail groups across the province to improve their online presence and communications, promote volunteerism, plan trail maintenance events and provide board governance guidance and templates.
An approved trail group can expect the equivalent of roughly half a day per week of work from a coordinator. The coordinators will be available from late May to late August. The coordinators are employees of Hike NS, which will provide supervision, training and resources to do their work. A trail group will be expected to have at least one person who can regularly correspond with a coordinator and provide the necessary information to do their work as well as access to website and social media accounts. Hike NS will not provide funding, but rather staff time to assist approved groups.
Criteria
Groups applying for coordinator support must be:
- A nonprofit organization that builds and maintains a public trail in Nova Scotia
- Registered with the NS Registry of Joint Stocks
- Does not currently have permanent, paid staff
We encourage trail groups to apply for coordinator support, but only 8 to 10 groups will be approved.
Please apply to receive support using the online application link below by [deadline coming soon].
