How to Avoid Needing Rescue Webinar



Taking place on Tuesday, October 1 at 7 pm, Hike Nova Scotia and Canadian Mountain Rescue Atlantic present a How to Avoid Needing Rescue webinar. Join Juergen Weigelt to learn how the Canadian Mountain Rescue Atlantic team works, rescue stories and what you can do to avoid needing rescue while hiking.

Jeurgen will cover pre-preparation for a hike in the wilderness, especially in areas where climbing is needed. He’ll cover what kind of clothing, footwear, emergency kits and extra gear you should take and what kind of training you should do before you hike into the wild. He will also talk about the training the Canadian Mountain Rescue Atlantic team performs to keep its knowledge and performance high. 

Presenter
Juergen Weigelt is the head of Canadian Mountain Rescue Atlantic, an independent, non-profit organization. Its teams across Nova Scotia that work with first responders when highlines are needed. Originally from Germany, Jeurgen spent time in the military, starting in the Navy with specialized training in diving and special ops. He then moved to the Airborne Rangers where he received special training in survival and wilderness rescue. After his time in the military, he became a full-time firefighter and specialist in high angle rescue and remote rescue operations. The forest and mountains were his playground and climbing was always a big part of his life. After moving to Canada in 2011, he and his family created ONTREE Fun & Adventure Park in Windsor Forks. He also played a key role for pre employment firefighting training in Nova Scotia, and still trains Fire Departments for all kinds of rescue operations.
 
It is offered in partnership with Canadian Mountain Rescue Atlantic and the Nova Scotia Department of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage.
