Become a Walk Leader

Do you like to walk and are looking for a way to give back to your community or workplace?
There are several possible ways you can volunteer with us!

Lead a walking Group
Join our growing network of volunteer walk leaders to help us support more adults in Nova Scotia to get out walking! NS Walks has local community-based walking groups. We are looking for people interested in leading gentle, fun, friendly regularly scheduled walks for adults who are currently less active. Take our free walk leader training to give you the skills and confidence to lead these walks. Most sessions are virtual (join from your home) and some are in person.

Training Outline:
In this online, interactive session, we'll cover the following: Barriers to walking, benefits of group walking, setting the pace, planning accessible routes and much more.
Included will be breaks and a short walk in your community!

Other ways to volunteer with us and be a walking champion in your community

Help organize a walking audit
It is easier to go for a walk when you live in a community that is walkable. We are helping communities organize and conduct walking audits to measure how walkable their community is and identify what needs improvement. We are looking for volunteers who are interested in helping with these.

Lead or co-lead a one off walk at a special event

We  have an opportunity to participate in community or workplace events to lead a walk for participants. For example, leading a walk at a conference in your community.

Help Promote NS Walks
Staff our display at an event to promote NS Walks in your community.

If you would like to help us out at one of these or would like more information, contact Catherine at walk@hikenovascotia.ca
